Plant-Based Culinary in Portugal

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, located at a villa by the river in the central Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. This coastal town is the ideal spot for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will be taught historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The holiday is held in a rural hotel overlooking the bay. Full board are provided, including a traditional tea on the first day, breakfast options, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not included. Writing in Crete

Author and tutor Greg Mosse leads the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He explores topics including story structure, characters, setting and suspense, to sending manuscripts to agents. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the start and finish of the week. The retreat is held at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages are set around a central garden with a pool (companions are welcome to share). On the final evening, aspiring writers mark the occasion with a concert in the courtyard and a final meal.

Introduction to Apiculture in Mid Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of courses covering eco-living: from creating habitats to upcycling.
