Peak Pizza? Domino's Chief Executive Departs After Shift Towards Chicken.
A head of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while diversifying the company into poultry items has been ousted after tensions with its board.
Leadership Shake-Up
Andrew Rennie is departing after a brief tenure in leadership, and will be succeeded on an acting basis by the company's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a long-term chief.
The outgoing executive, who worked for Domino's for over 20 years, had attempted to pivot Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards fried chicken, stating earlier this month there was not “massive growth” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He noted chicken was the fastest-growing protein in the world.
Governance Disagreements
It is understood that there was disagreement between the CEO and the directors over his strategy and business vision, although Domino's release said he was stepping down “by mutual agreement”.
Recent Product Introduction
In September, the chain introduced its chicken-focused offering – which Rennie described as a “significant new phase” for the organization – and is testing it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.
While the firm is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in 2026 as scheduled, it considers chicken products as a supplement for its primary pizza operations.
Leadership Statement
Ian Bull, the Domino's chairman, stated: “The board believes that there are a series of prospects to enhance value and profitability in the main pizza segment. We are focused on selecting the right chief executive to direct the systematic rollout of that expansion plan.”
Industry Difficulties
Earlier this month, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said orders fell by one and a half percent in the Q3. In the summer, it cautioned that the takeaway market had “grown more challenging” as it attributed economic uncertainty in the lead-up to the government announcement and rising wage costs for disappointing revenue and a 15 percent decline in six-month income.
Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut revealed the shutting of multiple locations a last month, after the firm behind its British operations entered insolvency.
Wellness Efforts
Responding to customer preferences towards balanced diets, the company has launched light products, such as its Thin & Crispy selection of pizzas below 400 kcal as well as vegan and allergy-friendly options. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A large cheese and tomato pizza has 2,171 kcal, while a individual has 909 calories.
Acting Management
Frampton has been with Domino's since 2021, and had a background at the betting firm a well-known operator. It is understood that she prefers not to assume the CEO position long-term.
Frampton stated: “We have a multiple current development and efficiency programs that we will be concentrating on carrying out at speed.”
She said these involved further work on the company's supply chain and menu innovation, and its loyalty scheme.
Domino's is also in need of a permanent finance director until the spring, when a new appointee comes aboard from the beverage producer a well-known firm. In the meantime, Richard Snow serves as acting financial officer.
